Jack Skellington’s Adventure
Project Overview
Research
User Persona
The purpose of this project was to create a user persona and journey map of a character of any book, movie, or play. At the time of receiving this design challenge, Halloween was right around the corner and I couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to pick Jack Skellington for this project.
I first started this project by rewatching The Nightmare Before Christmas movie to refresh my memory. It had been about a year ago since I had last watched it. I took notes of what Jack said, thought, and did throughout his journey. I also looked for websites that had character analysis of Jack to ensure I hadn’t missed out on important details of Jack’s character development.
Style Guide
For the fonts and color pallete, I drew inspiration from the movie poster.
From the notes I took during my research I was able to create the 1st version of the user persona of Jack Skellington:
Journey Map
I had to create a user persona of Jack Skellington that included critical details that would allow a design and development team to understand him. For the journey map, I had to include pain points, emotional ups and downs, and other critical details that would allow the team to relate to Jack and follow him through his journey of taking over Christmas.
The main feedback I received for the user persona was that it’s too text heavy and while many of the points I had were part of the story, I needed to cut through the “fluff" and include only important details about Jack. I implemented this feedback and created the 2nd version of the user persona:
From the notes I took during my research I was able to create the 1st version of Jack Skellington’s journey map:
The main feedback I received for the user persona was that it wasn’t very scannable, so I should try to condense the info and use bullet points. It also lacked visuals. I implemented the feedback and created the 2nd version of the journey map:
